Melanie Chapin Obituary

Whitehall, NY – Melanie S. Chapin passed away at the Glens Falls Hospital on March 10, 2024 after a brief illness.  Melanie was born on May 21, 1948 to William and Dorothy (Parrot) Morse.  She was the third daughter of four.  She graduated from Whitehall High School and in 1968 married Milton “Bob” Chapin.  After Bob’s passing at an early age in 1984, she went on the raise both of their boys, Brad and Bobby Chapin.

Melanie is survived by her two sons, Brad (BJ) and Bobby, a grandson, Joey Chapin and twin great-granddaughters, Lily and Lorielei whom she often cared for. Melanie is also survived by her two remaining sisters, Nancy Gould (Whitehall) and Alice Parker (Poultney) as well as several nieces and nephews.

Melanie is predeceased by her parents, husband, and the sister she shared a birthday with, Virginia “Jean” Rozell.  She is also predeceased by her three brothers-in-law Alan Rozell, Robert Parker, and Richard Gould, Sr.

Family was everything to Melanie.  She was extremely devoted to her parents, her boys, and her grandchildren.  She was extremely proud of the fact that she never strayed far from the family homestead and remained her entire life on Morse Lane and eventually back to her original roots, the Morse Farm.  She was happiest running the family farm that she and her sisters grew up on and developed their strong work ethic from.  Her fondest memories always included an aspect of the family farm and the land that she grew up on.  She loved the outdoors and in her early years was an avid trapper alongside her father and Aunt Eve.  Melanie was a very humble and stoic person.  She wasn’t afraid to tackle any challenge of dairy farm life and was proud that she was able to take over and operate the farm and eventually passing it on to her boys, the 4th generation.

Melanie is going to be missed dearly by her boys, grandchildren and her two remaining sisters.  She was a staple of Upper Turnpike, particularly Morse Lane.  Melanie is gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.

Respecting Melanie’s wishes, there will be no calling hours and the burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.  Memorial donations can be mailed directly to the Jillson Funeral Home to help her family fulfill her last wishes and defray the cost of her services.
